table wine

Name for a wine whose alcohol content results solely from alcoholic fermentation; in contrast to fortified wine. Likewise, table wine is also a term for the lowest wine quality level. However, in many countries there is a somewhat confusing overlap with the term (which has been banned in the EU since 2009) table wine, Because although the Italian Vino da tavola, the Spanish Vino de mesa, the Portuguese Vinho de mesa and the French Vin de table literally mean “table wine”, these wines are referred to as table wines (in German table and table have a connection with Food Similar Meaning).
