Tarrango

This red grape variety is a new cross between Touriga Nacional x Sultana. The cross was made in 1965 at the CSIRO Plant Industry Institute in Merbein, Australia, by the breeder A. J. Antcliff. Plant variety protection was granted in 1975. This late-ripening vine produces light, acidic red wines with low tannin content. It is also used as table grape. The variety is cultivated in Australia in the Murray Darling area. In 2016, 16 hectares of vines were reported here with a strong downward trend (Kym Anderson).
