Tasting bowl Tastevin Traditional wine tasting bowl, which is mostly made of silver, but also made of glass or porcelain. A use from the 14th century is documented. The goblets have a diameter of between 6.5 and 10 centimeters, sloping side walls and a slightly curved bottom. They have different sized, bowl-shaped indentations and elevations on the inside, which reflect the candlelight used for the test and also in a dim cellar the test of clarity and colour of a wine. There are versions with and without handles. For a wine tasting based on all criteria such as odor or taste however, they are not suitable and are not used by professional tasters. Sometimes still wear sommeliers Tastevins on a chain around the neck, but they have no practical use and are only to be understood as "job indicators". From the Burgundian wine brotherhood Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin the best wines are named "Tasteviné" at the annual awards. See also under wine review and wine address,
