Telavi Wine Cellar

The winery is located in the town of Telavi in the Kakheti region of Georgia. The formerly state-owned company was founded in 1915 and privatised in 1999. The winery owns 450 hectares of vineyards, of which 200 hectares are under cultivation. In addition, around 2,000 tonnes of grapes are purchased annually. In addition to traditional autochthonous grape varieties such as Aleksandrouli, Mtsvane Kakhuri, Mujuretuli, Ojaleshi, Rkatsiteli, Saperavi and Tsolikouri, international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Riesling and Chardonnay are processed. In USSR times, the yield of the vineyards of the winery was about 10 tonnes per hectare, and at that time the focus was mainly on mass wines. Today, the winery occupies a leading, exemplary position in terms of quality with reduced yields. The wines are marketed in different lines under the label "Marani". Well-known PDO wines include Akhasheni, Mukuzani, Napareuli and Tsinandali. Ice wines are also pressed and spirits produced.
