Temparia

The red grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Riparia x Tempranillo. It contains genes from Vitis riparia and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1996 by Ed Swanson in Nebraska-USA. The breeder worked together with Elmer Swenson (1913-2004) (nothing is known about a possible relationship between the two). The late-maturing vine is susceptible to powdery mildew. It produces red wines with soft tannins and cherry aroma. The variety is grown in small quantities in Nebraska. However, no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
