Tempranillos al Mundo

Annual competition for tempranillo wines, first held in Copenhagen (Denmark) in 2005. The competition is open to wines made from pure grape varieties as well as cuvées with a minimum of 50 percent tempranillo content. The competition is sponsored and organised by the Spanish Oenologists' Association, Federación Española de Enólogos (FEAE), with the help of the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin) in cooperation with the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX). The jury is made up half of tasters from the host country and half of Spanish and international experts. In May 2006 the competition was held in Cologne (Germany) at the Hyatt Hotel. More than 300 wines from the eight countries Australia, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain (the majority), Uruguay and the USA were submitted. Within two days the wines were compared and evaluated in blind tastings by oenologists, trade journalists, sommeliers, restaurateurs and retailers. Interested wine lovers had the opportunity to taste the award-winning wines at free entry. The winner of the highest prize "Gran Oro Tempranillo" was the "Tinto Reserva 2003" of the Pago de los Capellanes winery in Cologne in 2006. See also under awards and wine events.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
