Tenuta di Lilliano

The estate is located in the municipality of Lilliano, a hamlet of Castellina in Chianti (province of Siena) in the Italian region Tuscany, The wine production is part of a large estate with a total of 460 hectares of land, of which 40 olive groves, 170 seed land, 70 irrigated terrain and 130 forest. The origins of the building complex formerly owned by the Margrave of Tuscany date back to the Middle Ages and have been partly preserved in the topography, cellar and ring wall. The traditional estate was acquired in 1920 by the grandfather of the current owners. Eleonora Ruspoli Berlingieri began bottling bottled wines in 1958 with the help of two professionals, Giulio Gabelli and Enzo Morganti. The present owners are Giulio and Pietro Ruspoli, as winemaker is Andrea Brunelli, as oenologist Lorenzo Landi responsible. The vineyards cover 36 hectares of vineyards. They are exclusively planted with red wines, namely Sangiovese, Merlot, Canaiolo, Colorino del Valdarno, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In new vineyards are concerned with Sangiovese exclusively Clones used in the research and test series "Chianti Classico 2000", in which the winery played a significant role.

Winemaking is done in the traditional way. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled, glass-lined concrete tanks. After malolactic fermentation Depending on the type of wine, the wine is transferred or further developed in steel tanks, in French oak barrels (28 to 34 hl), in oak barrels and in bottles. Premium wines are Chianti-Classico Lilliano (80% Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino), Chianti-Classico Lilliano Riserva (90% Sangiovese, 10% others) and IGT Anagallis (60% Sangiovese, Colorino, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon). 160,000 bottles of wine are produced annually, of which two-thirds are exported to the US, Japan, Germany, Austria, Canada, Australia and Brazil. It also gets olive oil and grappa generated. The winery is a member of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, Consorzio Olio DOP Chianti Classico and Confagricoltura associations.
