Terre del Colleoni

DOC area (also Colleoni) for white and red wines in the Italian region Lombardy, The zone was only created in 2011 and includes over 70 municipalities in the province of Bergamo. The name pays homage to the ancient noble family of the Colleoni in Bergamo. Winegrowing here dates back to the time of Etruscan back. Julius Caesar (100-44 BC) is said to have appreciated the wine from Bergamo when he was walking through this area with his legions. There are more reports from Pliny the Elder (23-79) and Petrus de Crescentiis (1230-1320).

The varietal wines are made from at least 85% of the respective variety, and possibly a maximum of 15% of other approved varieties. The white wines are Chardonnay, Incrocio Manzoni ( Manzoni Bianco ), Moscato Giallo ( Goldmuskateller ) - also as Passito, Pinot Bianco ( Pinot Blanc ) and Pinot Grigio ( Pinot gris ). The red wines are Cabernet ( Cabernet Sauvignon ), Franconia ( Blaufränkisch ), Incrocio Terzi ( Incrocio Terzi 1 ) Marzemino. Merlot u. Schiava ( Schiava Lombarda ).

On Frizzante can be produced for all types of wine listed above. On Spumante is only possible with the wine types Chardonnay, Incrocio Manzoni, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio. And a Novello is allowed for the Cabernet, Franconia, Incrocio Terzi and Merlot wine types. In addition, there is a special spumante that can be used with the Metodo classico (Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Nero, Incrocio Manzoni and Pinot Grigio ( bottle fermentation ) fermented and matured on the yeast for 15 months. The version Millesimato (Vintage spumante) must mature for 24 months. A special Novello is produced in any use of the approved red varieties (but without Schiava varieties and Marzemino).
