The winery is located near the municipality of Ano Diakopto in the mountains of Egialia (Achaia prefecture) on the Greek peninsula of Peloponnese. It was founded in 1999 by the two pairs of brothers Aristos and Stathis Spanos and Panagiotis and Yiannis Ntotas and the oenologist Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos. Before that, the winery functioned purely as a grape supplier. The name was given after an ancient pear variety native to the area. In 2003, work began on building a modern winery. With EU funding, the winery was built within a year, including modern cellar technology, a wine bar and a small hotel. The vineyards at an altitude of up to 1,040 metres above sea level were expanded to 14 hectares and planted with the red wine varieties Agiorgitiko, Mavro Kalavritino (Agoumastos Mavro), Cabernet Sau vignon and Merlot, as well as with the white wine varieties Malagousia, Roditis and Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyards are cultivated according to ecological guidelines.

In July 2007, disaster struck when the forest fires raging in Peloponnese destroyed the farm building and part of the vineyards. The bar and hotel were only slightly damaged. Friendly winegrowers helped to vinify the harvested grapes of the 2007 vintage. In the meantime, the winery has been rebuilt with own and EU funds. The Ntotas brothers left the owners' association with three hectares of vines in 2010. They and a second winegrower supply organically produced grapes. Their own vineyards now cover 11 hectares of vines. The main variety is Roditis, which is considered a typical representative of the winery. A speciality is Mavro Kalavritino (Agoumastos Mavro), which is vinified single-vineyard. The Sauvignon Blanc and Malagousia varieties, transported to the winery by mobile cold storage, are vinified using skin contact (skin contact) at low temperatures with the aim of producing fruity wines. The product range includes PGE wines (country wines) and a POP Patras. A Retsina is also produced.
