The red grape variety originates from Greece. Synonyms are Thiako Mavro and Thiako Noir. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2000, there is a genetic relationship with the two varieties Goustolidi and Robola. However, the parentage is unknown. The medium-ripening vine produces spicy red wines, which are mostly used as blends. It is cultivated on the two Ionian islands of I thaca and Kefallonia. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics). There is also a white mutation called Theiako (also Thiakon) on the island of Lefkada.
