Therona Riesling

The white grape (also Therona) is a new breed between Cape Riesling ( Crouchen x Chenin Blanc, The crossing took place in 1980 in South Africa by Christiaan Johannes Orffer (1926-2008), named the viticulture pioneer and professor of the university Stellenbosch, CJ Theron honored. The early-ripening vine was specially created for South African climatic conditions with artificial irrigation and the required rot resistance bred. The first wine from it was pressed in 1986. In 2010 were in South Africa 99 hectares of vineyards with decreasing tendency (Kym Anderson ).
