Third wine

Designation (also third label) for "third quality" wines in Bordeaux that correspond to the lowest level (basic wines) in a winery with a three-tier quality pyramid. These can also reach a high level. Producers of such wines include Château de Pressac, Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Latour and Château Léoville-Las-Cases. The other two levels are called second wine and grand vin (first wine). Only since 1993 has it been permissible to use the term or part of the name Château or Domaine in the name for the second wine or third wine.
