The estate is located in the commune of Sonnendorf (near Bad Sulza) in the German wine-growing region Saale-Unstrut
, It was founded in 1992 as the first winery in Thuringia. The Burkhardt family and the city of Bad Sulza have owned the property since 1997. The business has been managed by Andreas Clauß (winemaker and technician for viticulture and cellar management) since 1994. Wolfram Proppe works as cellar master. In recent years, the winery has been furnished in a contemporary manner, and wine sales and tasting rooms have been created. The vineyards cover 42 hectares. The individual layers are on the slopes of the Ilm Valley Sonnenberg

(Auerstedt) operates and since 2008 also the historical terraces of the individual location Schlossberg (Dornburg), below the Dornburg castles. In spring 2010, a new location was established in Kunitz near Jena with 2.7 hectares of vineyards. 75% of the white wines are Müller-Thurgau (20%), Kerner, Gutedel, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Traminer, Muskateller, Auxerrois, Ortega, Scheurebe, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, as well as 25% of the red wines Regent, Cabernet Dorsa , Early Burgundy and Pinotin cultivated.

The white wines are stored for a long time lees and are aged in stainless steel containers, a small part in traditional wooden barrels. The red wines are traditionally mash fermented and then pass through the BSA. The best wines of a year are marketed under the name "Excellence". The trademark of the winery is the missing corner of the label. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also made and fine brandies (pomace, fruit brandies) from the vineyard's own orchards are offered. Around 200,000 bottles of wine are filled and marketed annually.
