The red grape variety comes from Italy, Synonyms are Cannamelu, Guarnaccia, Infectiva, OIlivella Tignitora, Tintora Lanzara, Tintora Nera, Tintorno, Uva Tignitora, Vernaccia and Vernaza Nera. According to in 2010 DNA analysis it comes from a presumably natural cross between Gerusalemme x Aglianico, It is a pure female grape and is therefore on pollination reliant. According to Wine grapes the synonyms Cannamelu, Guarnaccia and Tintora are also used for the variety Tintore di Tramonti used. This (by the way in VIVC catalog not included) variety according to the Swiss biologist Dr. José Vouillamoz no connection. According to 2013 DNA analysis Tintora was a parent of the variety Piedirosso, In 2010, no stocks were reported under the name Tintora (Kym Anderson ).
