The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Cannamelu, Cannamele, Guarnaccia, Tintora, Tintore. In the VIVC catalogue, Tintore di Tramonti is only a synonym for the Tintora variety; according to Wine Grapes, however, it is an independent variety. The late-maturing, low-yielding or low-yielding vine is resistant to Botrytis. It produces deep-coloured, tannic and acidic red wines with earthy, peppery aromas. The variety is grown (as the name suggests) mainly in Campania in the area of the municipality of Tramonti (province of Salerno), where it is permitted in the Costa d'Amalfi DOC wine, and on the island of Ischia. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
