Tobacco

tabaco (PO)

Description for the smell and taste of a wine in the context of a wine address. The aroma substance megastigmatrienone is responsible for the specific note. Especially wines from the varieties Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah possess this idiosyncratic dry-sweet note of tobacco, which is particularly typical for cold cigars. However, this is also typical for wines that have undergone barrique ageing. A taste of roasted tobacco is caused by sotolon. See also under toasting as well as total extract (wine constituents) and aroma substances.
