The DOC area for red and white wines in the Portuguese region Estremadura
used to be called Torres until the famous Spanish winery owner Miguel Torres
(* 1941) successfully protested. The wines are mainly made from the local varieties Arinto, Camarate (Castelão Nacional), Fernão Pires, Jampal, Mortágua (Trincadeira Preta), Periquita, Rabo de Ovelha, Seara Nova, Tinta Miúda (Graciano) and Vital. Most of them are simple table wines (Vinho de mesa).
