In Spain, Portugal and in some South American countries, frequently used name component for many different white grape varieties. The confusion is compounded by different spellings ("o" and "u"). Especially in the case of varieties grown in Portugal and Spain, there is often confusion as to which one is meant. The Portuguese DOC and Spanish DO regulations and vine variety catalogues are also of no help if they only state "Torrontés".

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
