The winery is located in the municipality of Sarasdorf near Stixneusiedl in the Carnuntum wine-growing region of Lower Austria. After an internship in California, Johannes Trapl took over the family business in 2000. The vineyards cover 18 hectares in the Kirchberg and Spitzerberg vineyards. They are 70% planted with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and 30% with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling and Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc). The vineyards are cultivated according to the guidelines of biodynamic viticulture, which have been certified since 2016. The focus is on plant growth with sensitive foliage care, cover crop, as well as fertilisation with compost while dispensing with mineral fertilisers. The slower ripening of the grapes is intended to develop more intense aromas. The selective harvest takes place in two rounds with the aim of physiologically ripe grapes.

Johannes Trapl's credo is: " I want to feel the diversity, finesse and power that is in our vineyards and bring a maximum of it into the wines without losing the drinking flow . Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, in 500-litre wooden barrels or in barriques. The grapes for the premium wines are foot-picked in large vats. Fermentation takes place spontaneously without pure yeasts and enzymes. The premium wines of the house include Spitzerberg (Blaufränkisch), Rubin Carnuntum (Zweigelt), Grüner Veltliner and the red wine cuvée Tilhofen (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Blaufränkisch). The winery is a member of Rubin Carnuntum Weingüter and Traditionsweingüter Österreich.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
