Trbljan

The white grape variety originates from Croatia. Synonyms are Dobrogoština, Grban, Kuč, Pljuskavac, Rukavina, Šampanjol, Trbljan Beli and Trbljan Bijeli. It should not be confused with the morphologically similar and possibly related varieties Trebbiano Toscano or Trebbiano Romagnolo. It should be noted that the VIVC catalogue does not list Trbljan as an independent variety. Instead, Trbljan (Torbijan, Trbljan Beli, Trbljan Bijeli) is listed there as a synonym for the Mostosa variety. The medium to late ripening, high-yielding vine is susceptible to both powdery mildew and botrytis. It yields white wines that are acidic, simple and rather low in alcohol. The variety is widespread in southern Dalmatia, along the Croatian coast and also on the island of Vis. No stocks were reported in 2016; in 2010 there were 231 hectares (Kym Anderson).
