Trincadeira das Pratas

The white grape variety originates from Portugal. Synonyms are Allaren (is also an independent grape variety with the same parentage as Trincadeira das Pratas), Arinto Gordo, Boal Prior, Tamarez d'Alentejo and Tamarez d'Azeitão. It should not be confused with the Tamarez (Boal Prior) or Trincadeira Preta varieties, despite morphological similarities or seemingly indicative synonyms. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2015, it is probably a natural cross between Hebén x Alfrocheiro. However, a further DNA analysis by other biologists only confirmed the parentage of the Hebén variety. The variety was a crossing partner in the new variety Albana Devej. The early-maturing vine is susceptible to botrytis, but resistant to both types of powdery mildew. It produces light white wines with aromas of fresh herbs, lemons and pears. The variety is grown in the Península de Setúbal and Ribatejo areas. In 2016, a vineyard area of 124 hectares was reported (Kym Anderson statistics).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
