The red grape variety comes from the former Yugoslavia
in the border area Croatia
and Bosnia Herzegovina
, Synonyms are Rudežuša, Trnjak Crni, Trnjak Mali, Trnjak Uzgoriti and Trnjak Veliki. It may be named after the homonymous municipality in Bosnia-Herzegovina near Mostar. The medium to late ripening vine provides intense ruby red, alcohol-rich red wines. It is grown in Dalmatia in the hinterland and on the coast. In 2010, 15 hectares of vineyards were shown in Croatia. There are also said to be small stocks across the border in Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegovina).
