The red grape variety comes from the former Yugoslavia
in the border area Croatia
and Bosnia Herzegovina
, Synonyms are Rudežuša, Trnjak Crni, Trnjak Mali, Trnjak Uzgoriti and Trnjak Veliki. It may be named after the homonymous community in Bosnia-Herzegovina near Mostar. The medium to late ripening vine produces intense ruby red, alcohol-rich red wines. It is grown in Dalmatia in the hinterland and on the coast. In 2010, 15 hectares of vineyards were recorded in Croatia. Above the border in Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegovina) there should also be small stocks.
