Troyen

The red grape variety originates from France. There are around 30 synonyms. Some of them are Avanà, Avanas de Chiomonte, Blue Liverdun, Faux Liverdun, Fontanet, Framboisé, Gamay de Rolampont, Gamay Rouge, Gamelin, Gamery, Liverdun, Glorie d'Australie, Jacquemart, Petit Gamay, Plant de Varennes, Ricey de Bourgogne, Romaine, Romains, Troyan, Troyen Noir and Vert Plant. It should not be confused with the Avanà, Eyholzer or Gamay (Liverdun Grand) varieties, despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is a presumably natural cross between Gouais Blanc x Pinot. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). The variety is no longer important; no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
