The appellation is located in the southwest of the wine-growing region Southwest France
, It connects to the eastern border of the area Madiran
on. The former VDQS area was classified as AOP in 2011. The vineyards cover 300 hectares of vines in 41 municipalities in the two departments of Landes (39) and Gers (2) at the foot of the Pyrenees. Around two thirds of the wines are made from tannates (30 to 40%), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Fer. The white wines consist of baroque and a maximum of 10% Sauvignon Blanc, Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, Claverie, Cruchinet, Raffiat, Claret du Gers and Clairette. Well-known producers are Château de Bachen and CV de Tursan.
