The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Invernenga Bresciana, Imbrunesca, Invernesca, Pergola, Pergolese and Ua'mbrunesca. It was first mentioned in 1826 as one of the most commonly grown varieties around Brescia in Lombardy.
