Divided by the Sierra Altomira, it comprises 25 municipalities in the province of Cuenca (including the municipality of Uclés) and three municipalities in the province of Toledo. It has a continental climate with very hot, dry summers with little rainfall and very cold winters. The vineyards cover 1,500 hectares of vines on soils with a deep sandy, loamy structure. The red wine varieties Cencibel (Tempranillo), Garnacha Tinta, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, as well as the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Macabeo, Moscatel de Grano Menudo (Muscat Blanc or Yellow Muscat), Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo are authorised. The Vino de Pago vineyard Pago Calzadilla is located in the area as an enclave.
