Unger Petra

The estate is located in the municipality of Furth near Göttweig in the Lower Austrian wine region Kremstal, After the death of father Dr. Wolfgang Unger in 1999 was taken over by Petra Unger, who studied at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Wien (specializing in viticulture) and gained practical experience in a California winery. Since 2006, Petra Unger has dedicated herself exclusively to her own vineyards (the long-term lease of the vineyards of the Göttweig Abbey has been abandoned). The vineyards cover 11 hectares of vineyards in the Gaisberg vineyards, Gottschelle, Hinters Kirchl and Oberfeld. They are 75% cultivated with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, and 25% with the red varieties Zweigelt and Pinot Noir. The wines are produced in the three categories "Q" (fresh, light wines), "Classic" (fruity wines) and "Reserve" (full-bodied, storable wines). The premium wines include several Green Veltliners and Rieslings Kremstal DAC or Kremstal DAC Reserve with different vineyard names. Around 60,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Fine brandies (fruit, wine, pomace) and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
