Uva Longanesi

The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Bursôn, Longanesi and Negretto Longanesi. In 1913, a property was bought by Antonio Longanesi (1854-1934) in the municipality of Bagnacavallo, west of Ravenna in Emilia-Romagna. It was here that an old vine was found growing up an old oak tree. His grandson Antonio (*1921) propagated it and pressed wine from it for personal use for many years. It was only in 1956 that his brother Pietro (1931-1999) used the wine as a blend for commercial use. Finally, in 1999, it was included in the official register of varieties with the family's name. The very old variety had been cultivated in the area for at least 200 years and had been forgotten over time. According to DNA analyses, it is not identical to other known varieties. Some local historians hypothesise that it was introduced from Spain by mercenaries of the Pope, while others assume that it was selected from local wild vines.

Loganesi - Weintraube und Blatt

The medium-late ripening vine has small, thick-skinned berries. A special feature is that the grape "announces" its ripeness, so to speak. It often retains a green berry. As soon as this has also ripened (turned blue), the grapes can be harvested. The vine is resistant to frost and fungal diseases. It produces rustic red wines with pronounced but soft tannins and aromas of sour cherries. Today, the variety is cultivated in the area of the municipalities of Bagnacavallo and Faenza. The consortium "Il Bagnacavallo" watches over the production rules of the wine. The brand name "Bursôn" was chosen for it, which refers to the nickname "chatterbox" of Antonio Longanesi. There are different types, there is the Bursôn with a blue label (à la Beaujolais), the Bursôn with a black label (in the style of Amarone made from at least 50% dried grapes), the sparkling wine Rosé brut and a sweet Passito, as well as a Grappa (grape marc brandy) and even a beer called "Beerson" (with the yeasts of the wine). In 2016, 539 hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).
