Valentino Nero

The red grape variety is a new variety between Chatus (Nebbiolo di Dronero) x Dolcetto. Synonyms are Dalmasso 16-8, Incrocio Dalmasso XVI/8 and Valentino. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2009, the breeding list entry Nebbiolo x Dolecetto has been found to be incorrect. The cross was made in 1936 in Conegliano (Veneto) by the breeder Giovanni Dalmasso (1886-1974). By the way, the two new breeds Passau and San Martino (1) were created with the same parents. It is cultivated in Piedmont. In 2016, 20 hectares of vineyard area were declared with a decreasing tendency (statistics Kym Anderson). Small stocks are also supposed to exist in Argentina.
