The estate is located in the municipality of Vilobí del Penedès in the Spanish DO area Penedès
(Region of Catalonia). It was founded by Francisco José Doménech in 1865 and is named after an old church called "Santa Maria de Vallformosa". The name means "beautiful valley". The Spanish king Alfonso XIII. (1886-1941) visited the estate in 1904. In 2000 the company was ISO 9001 certified. The vineyards cover 397 hectares with the vineyards El Maset, Mas Baltá, Mas Caballé, Masía Can Colomer, Mas Granell, Masía Freyé, Mas La Roca, Masía La Sala and Vallfort. They are planted with the white varieties Chardonnay, Macabeo, Muscat, Parellada and Xarel-lo, as well as the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha Tinta, Monastrell, Samsó (Carignan), Syrah and Tempranillo. The wines are produced in the Selection, Noble, Traditional, MVSA and Gran Barón lines. 2,500 oak barrels are available for expansion. To a large extent, too Cava
