The winery is located in the municipality of Vilobí del Penedès in the Spanish DO area Penedès
(Region Catalonia). It was founded in 1865 by Francisco José Doménech and is named after an old church called "Santa Maria de Vallformosa". The name means "beautiful valley". The Spanish King Alfonso XIII. (1886-1941) visited the estate in 1904. In 2000, the company was certified to ISO 9001. The vineyard area totals 397 hectares, including El Maset, Mas Baltá, Mas Caballé, Masía Can Colomer, Mas Granell, Masía Freyé, Mas La Roca, Masía La Sala and Vallfort. They are planted with the white varieties Chardonnay, Macabeo, Muscat, Parellada and Xarel -lo, and the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha Tinta, Monastrell, Samsó (Carignan), Syrah and Tempranillo. The wines are produced in the lines Selection, Noble, Traditional, MVSA and Gran Barón. There are 2,500 oak barrels for the expansion. To a large extent, too Cava
