The white grape variety is a complex new variety between Vandal 63 (Prince of Wales x Riparia) x Vandal 163 (Aurore x Chancellor). Synonyms are Cliche, Cliche 84-14, Cliche Blanc, Vandal 84-14, Vandal Blanc and Vandal Cliche. Genes of Vitis aestivalis, Vitis cinerea, Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis riparia, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera are included. The hybrid was crossed in 1946 by the breeder Joseph O. Vandal (1907-1994) at Laval University in Quebec, Canada. The early to medium ripening vine is extremely resistant to frost down to minus 35 °Celsius, but susceptible to downy mildew and anthracnose. It produces light-coloured white wines with citrus aromas and a foxtone. The variety is grown in the Quebec area of Canada. In 2016, 14 hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
