Vanneque Christian

The French wine expert Christian Vanneque (*1950) was sommelier in the famous three-star restaurant "La Tour d'Argent" in Paris for ten years (the website of the house mentions 1582 as year of foundation and King Henry IV as its most famous guest). In 1976 he was one of the 11 jurors at the legendary Paris Wine Tasting and also at the 30th anniversary of this tasting in 2006. Vanneque moved to the USA in 1984, where he worked as a consultant for well-known hotel chains such as "Four Seasons" (Beverly Hills, Los Angeles) and "Givenchy Resort & Spa" (Palm Springs California). In 1990 he opened the restaurant "La Palette" in New York, sold it in 1999 and moved to Bali, where he runs the two restaurants "The Living Room" and "SIP Sunset Grill". In July 2011 he purchased a bottle of Château d'Yquem of the legendary vintage 1811 from the Antique Wine Company in London for 75,000 British pounds (€ 85,000). It was exhibited at the opening of his new restaurant. Vanneque does not intend to open the bottle until 2017 on the occasion of his 50th anniversary. It is the most expensive white wine in the world to date.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
