Naturally, these are only very old grape varieties, Most of the cultivars cultivated today in Western Europe go to a relatively small group of leading varieties and their spontaneous (natural) intersections back. The most important is probably Gouais Blanc (Heunisch or Weißer Heunisch), of which well over 100 varieties, among others Riesling (Germany), Chardonnay (France), Blaufränkisch and Sylvaner (Austria), and Furmint (Hungary) descended.
