The white grape variety originates from France. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between the leading variety Savagnin Blanc (Traminer) x unknown partner. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). A few vines are in the grape variety collection of the Domaine de Vassal ( INRAE field office; see photo below). However, it is no longer used in viticulture; no stocks were reported in 2016 either (Kym Anderson statistics).
