The white grape variety originates from Spain. Synonyms are Verdal, Verdall, Verdell, Verdiel, Verdiell, Verdier and Verdill. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2021, it comes from a presumably natural cross between Hebén x unknown father variety. It produces light white wines with aromas of apples and pineapple. The vine, which is threatened with extinction, was reactivated by winemaker Daniel Belda and is mainly cultivated by him in small quantities in the Vall dels Alforins in the DO area of Valencia. In 2016, 50 hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
