Verduzzo Trevigiano

The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Verduc, Verduz, Verduzzo, Verduzzo di Motta and Verduzzo Verde. The parentage is unknown. According to DNA analysis carried out in 2011, the variety Verduzzo Friulano, often considered a variety and also frequently confused with it, is clearly different. According to one hypothesis, it was introduced from Sardinia at the beginning of the 20th century, but there is no correspondence with modern Sardinian varieties. The late-ripening vine is cultivated in Veneto in the provinces of Treviso and Venezia. There it is often permitted together with the variety Verduzzo Friulano in the DOC wines Lison-Pramaggiore, Piave and Venezia. The Italian cultivated area in 2016 was 531 hectares with a strong downward trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
