The winery "Bodegas Vicente Malumbres" is located in the municipality of Corella (90 kilometres from Pamplona) in the region or DO area of
Navarra. It was founded in 1930 by Vicente Malumbres. The winery is managed by Javier Malumbres. His sister Maria Socorro is responsible for the oenological area and his brother Vicente Jesus for the production. The vineyards cover 75 hectares of vines. Smaller quantities of grapes are purchased from contract winegrowers. The main varieties cultivated are Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo, Viura and Chardonnay. Around 80% are indigenous varieties.
Organic viticulture is practised with mainly organic fertilisation (sheep manure), as well as largely dispensing with
herbicides and the targeted use of beneficial insects against pests instead of
insecticides. The highest value is placed on optimal grape ripeness.
From mid-August until the grape harvest, samples are constantly taken for analysis. The parameters potential alcohol content,
pH value,
acids,
potassium,
anthocyanins, polyphenols, colour intensity, tannic acids and berry weight are analysed in the laboratory.
Fermentation is started mainly with natural yeasts. For ageing, 400 barrique barrels of mainly American oak are available. The wines from a vineyard (site) are called "Vinos de Finca". The top products are called "Primeros Viñedos" and are the result of the oldest vines planted between 1940 and 1960. These are the four small sites Ontinar, Güio, Balbine and Canteruelas with 0.4 to 1.2 hectares planted exclusively with Garancha Tinta. The yield is between 10 and 12 hectolitres per hectare. About 80% of the production is exported.
