The red grape variety comes from Spain. Synonyms are Canona, Crespiello, Garnacha Basta, Garnacha de Grano Gordo, Garnacha Gorda, Vidadico, Vitadillo and Vidao. The parentage (parenthood) is unknown. It must not be confused with the Garnacha Tinta variety, from which it differs according to DNA analysis, because of morphological similarities or indicative synonyms. It is grown in small stands in the Cariñena (Aragon) area. In 2016, 38 hectares of vineyard area were designated (statistics Kym Anderson).
