VIF wine trade is a franchise system that specializes in distributing quality wines from around the world in collaboration with partners. The company was founded in 1990 by Frank Roeder at the suggestion of FROVIN (Saarbrücken). The company, which specializes in high-quality cheeses mainly from France and Italy, was looking for suitable wines to supplement the range. At the same time, VIF wine trade took over the product design and training of all sales staff for FROVIN. The VIF head office based in Völklingen (Saarland) is responsible for the selection and import of the products and stores them in the central warehouse. She also looks after the Saarland market. In addition to FROVIN, a further seven franchise partners are now active on their own responsibility in their region.
The managing director is Frank Roeder, who in 2009 became the first third German to take the exam Master of Wine
graduated. The range is clearly determined by wines from European countries. Mainly these are products from Germany, Italy and France, followed by Spain, Portugal and Austria. This is complemented by a small but careful selection of overseas wines such as Argentina, Australia, Chile and South Africa. The selection of wines follows a lengthy process, with more than 3,000 wines per year tasted blind
to be compared and evaluated with other similar wines. The wineries are visited, checked and controlled. The range includes wines that convince in terms of quality and price.
There is also a wide range of events. With wine tasting events held twice a year on each weekend, novelties in the range, new vintages and a wide selection of attractive wines are presented for free. The winemakers present give first-hand information about their wines. Training and seminars, wine evenings in restaurants, wine & dine evenings, thriller readings, cooking classes and the like complete the offer. VIF Weinhandel has been offering an art prize for several years, in which all artists in the fields of painting, graphics and sculpture are addressed to design the front page of the VIF wine catalog.
