French name for winegrower (also Viticulteur); look there.

The German term winemaker is derived from the Latin "Vinitor" (from Vinum = wine) and means "Weinleser" (wine grape reader). This suggests that previously only the activity of growing grapes could be understood. Today, in German-speaking countries, this is not a clear job title, but rather a general, colloquial collective name for the group of winegrowers, regardless of the scope of activity, from pure grape suppliers to wine producers (cellar masters). As a rule, however, only one wine production company is considered winery designated.
