Producer description of "Tenuta Villanova"

The historically important winery "Tenuta Villanova" is located in the municipality of Farra d`Isonzo in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. It was founded as early as 1499. In 1932, it was acquired by Arnaldo Bennati. The estate, which was first called "Piave-Isonzo", was then given its current name in 1985. Today, it belongs to Giuseppina Grossi Bennati, and Mario Zuliani is the director in charge. The estate covers about 200 hectares, half of which are planted with vines. These are the red wine varieties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir), as well as the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Malvasia Istriana (Malvazija Istarska), Moscato Giallo (Gold Muscat), Picolit, Pinot Bianco (Pinot Blanc), Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris), Ribolla Gialla, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Friulano (Sauvignonasse), Traminer Aromatico (Gewürztraminer) and Verduzzo Friulano. In addition to viticulture, there is also arable farming and a distillery. A guesthouse for tourists is attached. The vineyards are located in the DOC areas Collio Goriziano (20 ha) and Friuli Isonzo (80 ha). The premium wines include the Collio Goriziano wines Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon Ronco Cucco, Cabernet Sauvignon Ronco Cucco and Merlot, as well as the Friuli Isonzo wines Malvasia and Pinot Grigio. Around 400,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Spumante and distillates such as grappa are also produced.
