Vin des Allobroges

IGP area for red, rosé and white wines in the French region of Savoie. The name Allobroges derives from the Celtic tribe of the Allobrogians, who were subjugated by Julius Caesar (100-44 BC) and after whom the ancient wine Allobrogica is named. Their territory stretched from the Rhône and Isère rivers in Savoie to Lake Geneva. It was introduced with the 2012 vintage instead of Vin de pays d'Allobrogie and includes the communes of the two departments of Savoie and Haut-Savoie as well as the canton of Seyssel in the department of Ain. Vin des Allobroges is almost the same as the Vin de Savoie AOC area. All the grape varieties permitted in Savoie are allowed. Around 70% of the white wines are blended from mainly Aligoté, Altesse, Chardonnay, Chasselas, Jacquère and Roussanne. The red and rosé wines are mainly made from the Gamay, Mondeuse Noire and Pinot No ir varieties.
