The winery is located in the municipality of Leiro (Ourense province) in the Spanish region of Galicia. It was founded in 1988 by Javier Alén. A small hotel is attached. The vineyards cover 17 hectares. They are planted with the white wine varieties Albariño(Alvarinho), Albilla(Albillo de Albacete), Godello, Lado, Loureira(Loureiro), Torrontés(Alarije) and the 70% cultivated leading variety Treixadura(Trajadura), as well as the red wine varieties Brancellao(Alvarelhão), Caiño Longo and Sousón(Vinhão). The cultivation is carried out according to the guidelines of Biodynamic viticulture. All wines are produced as DO Ribeiro. The standard white wines are aged in steel tanks. The premium wines are the white wines "Tega do Sol" (Treixadura, Albariño) and "Eiras Altas" (Treixadura, Loureira, Albariño), aged for eight to ten months in 500-litre oak barrels, and the red wine "Tinto Atlantico", aged for 18 months in barrique. Around 100,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. About 20% of these are exported to European countries and the USA. Aguardiente is also produced.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
