Vine fatigue

Poor growth of vines after repeated use of a soil, especially when used as vine nursery. Depending on the soil type, this manifests itself in a decline in vegetative and generative performance with poor growth, short shoots and root death. The causes are manifold and in some cases only incompletely known. These include an enrichment of the soil with certain bacteria and damaging root excretions. Prevention can be achieved by frequently changing the vineyard areas. The negative effects can be minimised by adding mycorrhiza (a type of fungus) or carbon disulphide. Vine fatigue can be largely eliminated by targeted soil remediation measures and subsequent replanting. See also a list of all diseases and pests under vine enemies.
