With 11,800 hectares of vineyards forms a semicircle around the southern suburbs of Madrid and is divided into three subzones. San Martín de Valdeiglesias is located west of the city, in the southwest Navalcarnero borders on the greater Madrid area and Arganda is located southeast. The white wines are produced from Airén, Albillo, Malvar (Lairén), Parellada, Torrontés and Viura, the latter three being approved only in 1996. The red wines are mainly from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and Garnacha (Grenache) and smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot pressed.
