Vinum picatum

Denomination (Vin poissé) for a wine from Roman antiquity. Poissé is the name for a resinous material used to seal wine containers (e.g. amphorae). Such a wine is mentioned by Pliny the Elder (23-79) in his scientific paper "Naturalis Historia" as a high-quality wine from the left bank of the Rhône (Vienne in the department of Isère). It was made from the ancient grape variety Allobrogica.
