Virginia Tech

The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, United States Virginia was founded in 1872. To support the wine industry, the “Enology-Grape Chemistry Group” was created in 1986 as part of the “Department of Food Science and Technology” with a focus on teaching and research. The research focuses on the analytical Chemistry with the aim of investigating the relationship between the vineyard and the aroma of the grapes and improving the taste potential of the grapes using suitable wine-making methods. In Winchester in the northern Shenandoah Valley, research on cold stress physiology, vine and vineyard management with regard to the optimization of yield and grape quality, grape variety and clone assessment and pest control are carried out.
