Vitrarolo

This red grape variety comes from Italy. The name is derived from the Sicilian word for "glass" (vitru), as the shoots look like glass in winter and also break easily. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. The variety was rediscovered in the north-east of Sicily on the foothills of the Monti Nebrodi. The medium-ripening vine yields ruby red wines rich in alcohol and tannins with aromas of red fruits. No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
