Viu Manent

The company's headquarters are located in Santiago, the capital of Chile. The owner family had already immigrated from Spain at the beginning of the 19th century In 1935 Don Miguel Viu García and his sons founded the company "Bodegas Viu". In the beginning, purchased wines were bottled and marketed under the own brand name "Vinos Viu". In 1966, under the next generation of the family, Don Miguel Viu Manent acquired the traditional winery "Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco" and the first vineyards in the Colchagua area. The first bottled wines were not produced until 1990. In the 1990's there were large investments in cellar technology, vineyard management and new vineyards. Today the winery is managed by José Miguel Viu. The vineyards cover 260 hectares. They are mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Chardonnay, Malbec(Cot), Merlot and Sémillon. The wines are marketed under the labels Late Harvest, Reserva, Secreto, Special Selection, Varietals and (in honour of Don Miguel Viu Manent) Viu 1. Around two million bottles of wine are produced annually, the majority of which are exported.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
