Vivarais

The red grape variety (also Seibel 2003) is an interspecific new variety between Jaeger 70 (Munson) x Herbemont d'Aurelles 1 (Herbemont - open-pollinated). It contains genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis cinerea, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and probably also Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in France by the breeder Albert Seibel (1844-1936). Under the breeding number Seibel 2003, it was used for countless other crosses, which in turn mainly served as crossing partners. Vivarais was involved, for example, in the three new varieties Gloire de Seibel, Plantet and Solara. It no longer plays a role as a yielding vine; no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
